The latest porcelain trends are available in many finishes, such as polished, bush-hammered, or even split-faced to mimic natural materials. With a non-porous surface due to its stoneware composition, porcelain is easy to maintain and clean, making it an excellent choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and both indoor and outdoor spaces.
What mainly sets porcelain apart from ceramic tiles is its composition and manufacturing process. Porcelain is made using a finer clay blend that is compressed under higher pressure and fired at higher temperatures in the kiln. This gives porcelain stoneware several key properties:
Long lifespan: The density of porcelain tiles makes them more durable than ceramic tiles, with less susceptibility to wear and chipping. This makes them more suitable for commercial installations.
Water resistance: Compared to ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles are more water-resistant, as ceramic is more porous and therefore has a higher water absorption rate.
Uniform composition: Because unglazed porcelain tiles have a consistent color throughout the material, small chips tend to go unnoticed, unlike ceramic tiles which often have a glazed surface color, meaning chips can reveal a different underlying color, making them more visible.
