Compared to other materials, quartz countertops require very little maintenance. Since they are completely non-porous, they do not need sealing. However, there are a few important guidelines to follow to ensure no permanent damage is caused during use or cleaning.
First, it’s recommended to clean your quartz countertop daily using products specifically designed for quartz or any product as long as it is not too acidic or too alkaline. Make sure to use non-abrasive cloths to avoid scratching the surface.
If, by chance, any of these products come into contact with the quartz, rinse it immediately before it causes damage.
It’s also advisable to occasionally use a glass cleaner or a polishing product to polish and make your countertop shine like new. It’s also better to use disinfectant products on your countertop if it comes into contact with food like meat.
Certain liquids, like coffee and red wine, can leave permanent stains on your countertop if not cleaned immediately. To prevent this, make sure to clean all stains and spills right away before they dry.
It’s also recommended not to expose the quartz to thermal shock by placing it in contact with fire or putting very hot objects on your countertop. This can permanently damage your countertop. For this, it’s advised to use insulating pads under hot objects.
You should also avoid placing permanent markers or ink on your countertop, and any other dyes that can leave permanent stains damaging the color of your quartz.
Lastly, even though it is one of the hardest materials, it’s recommended not to cut food directly on the quartz, and to use a cutting board.
