Comptoir de pierre à savon
Very distinctive with its rustic and industrial look, Alberene soapstone has been a designer favorite since 1883. Its exceptional thermal properties and dense mineral structure make it perfect for large open areas and heated floors.
It resists heat and is unaffected by acidic solutions, making it an ideal candidate for kitchen countertops. Applying a simple mineral oil allows you to alter the color of your countertops to your liking (lighter or darker) and helps maintain the stone.
WHAT IS SOAPSTONE?
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock closely related to talc and serpentine (green marble). Steatite is as hard as limestone but denser. Throughout history, it has been commonly appreciated and used as construction blocks, sinks, flooring, architectural accents, slabs, cooking pots and vessels—and its use in sculpture dates back to ancient times.
Over the centuries, in cold-climate countries, soapstone was used as a heat source in bedrooms: it was heated and placed under the bed. In some places, even window frames were made of soapstone—the sun would warm the stone, and the heat would then diffuse into the room.
